Preparation for Retreats
Why a retreat?
retreat is a precious opportunity to temporarily suspend one's usual responsibilities and to reside in a more secluded and peaceful environment, adopting a simpler lifestyle. In a retreat, one is able to enter more deeply into a state of prayer and meditation, which naturally leads the mind to become expansive and quieter, and to develop more knowledge about own self and about the phenomena of existence.
A retreat should not be taken to avoid one’s responsibilities towards family and society. In the Buddhist tradition it is strongly emphasized that the purpose of such practice is to be able to participate in a better capacity in life, having realize the mind’s natural attributes such stillness, clarity, empathy, compassion and loving kindness. Accomplished practitioners become protectors of the environment as a living example.
The preparation for a retreat has different duration according to the duration of the retreat itself. However, in all the cases, it includes the studying of different texts from different teachers and the learning of the techniques and principles including in other activities organized by Trikaya, such as Ngondro, Introduction to Mahamudra, Alchemy and Abhidharma.
